[00:02:29] Hello, my loves. I have created something for you that I am beyond excited to share with you finally. If you love the podcast, you will love the new audio course I created, What to Do When You Hate Your Job. And the best part, well, aside from the absolute knowledge bombs that I will be dropping on you, is that you can listen to this course for free right now. Let me tell you how. So this course is on Listenable, an audio platform like the one you're listening to right now. But instead of podcasts, it has short audio courses from experts on topics like career and success, personal development, productivity, health and fitness, entrepreneurship, and so much more.

[00:03:23] The thing about Listenable is that their courses are bite-sized and easy to consume. Each lesson in a course is under 10 minutes long, which means you can listen to an entire course, including mine, in under an hour. This platform is perfect for getting that short burst of inspiration, motivation, and knowledge while you are getting ready, on your commute to work, on the treadmill, or wherever you love to listen to podcasts. Now the course I've created is designed to help you navigate your quarter-life crisis. Obviously, that's kind of the point of this entire podcast, but in the course, I boil it down into short action steps and exercises that you can do right now to get yourself out of a job you hate and start making money doing work you love.

[00:04:17] I also definitely share some insights that I haven't shared here on the podcast and offer a new perspective on some of the topics you hear me talk about all the time. This course includes eight short audio lessons, I'm talking under 10 minutes each, and I'm telling you, you will feel so motivated and so clear on how to discover your passions and use the things you love to make money.

[00:04:42] I share insights on overcoming self-doubt and the fear of making the wrong decision. How to find happiness in a job you hate, and how to stop settling in your career and create a more fulfilling life. So here's the deal. The episode you're about to listen to is my audio course's first lesson.

[00:05:03] You can listen to the rest of the course for free during your seven-day trial on Listenable. And if you realize you are obsessed with listenable and choose to stick around, you can use Code LindsayHanson for 30% off your subscription. The link to my course is kind of long, so I will spare you from having to hear me spell it out, but I left it right in the show notes for you so you can listen to lesson one here and then click the link in the show notes to get your free trial of Listenable and hear the rest of the course.

[00:05:35] I want to thank you, guys, so, so much for all of your support and for tuning in, whether that is here on the podcast or listening to my course; just know that I appreciate you so so much, and I'm proud of you for taking these steps toward creating a happier and more fulfilling life for yourself. And if you do listen to the course, I would love to hear your feedback.

[00:05:57] Obviously, rate the course inside Listenable and also take a screenshot of your favorite lesson, post it on your Instagram story, tag me @lindsaymhanson, and spread the word. Send it to your coworkers you talk to daily about how much you both want to quit your job. Spread the love.

[00:06:20] All right. I love you guys. Let's get into the episode. I hope you love the course. Here is lesson one: are you settling in your career?

[00:06:36] Hello and welcome to the course, What To Do When You Hate Your Job on Listenable. I'm Lindsay Hanson, the Quit Your Job, Sis podcast host. In 2018, I quit my accounting job to start my online coaching business. I had no idea how to start an online business, but I knew I wanted the freedom of working for myself and the fulfillment of doing work I felt passionate about. Now I'm a life coach, helping others who feel stuck in their job to get clear on the type of work they want to do and how to turn their passions into a thriving career. I also specialize in helping women who wanna start and grow their own online businesses. In this course, you'll learn the main reasons why you find yourself in a job you hate, how to know if you're settling in your career, why you might be looking for career advice in the wrong places, how to find happiness while you're still in a job you hate, how to discover your passions and what to do if your passion doesn't pay well. How to overcome the self-doubt that comes up when you think about making a career change, and how to handle the common fear: what if I quit my job and regret it?

[00:07:44] This course will help you gain clarity on what's keeping you stuck, whether you dream of making a career change, starting a side hustle, or quitting your job to work for yourself full-time. My goal is for you to leave this course feeling clear about the life and career you desire and motivated to move toward your dream life so you don't waste any more time in a job you hate.

[00:08:06] So, let's start with lesson one: are you settling in your career? We're going to talk about why it's so common to end up in a job you hate and how to know whether you're on a path to fulfillment or headed straight for your quarter-life or midlife crisis. If you're listening to this, it's likely that you already know the answer to this question because, let's be honest, you wouldn't have clicked on this course if you didn't feel like you were settling in your job.

[00:08:33] It really boils down to one question. If you knew that you could succeed in whatever job you want, would you stay in the one you're in now? If the answer to this question is no, then you are settling, and you might be thinking, okay, Lindsay, but that's not realistic. Everyone I know hates at least some part of their job.

[00:08:54] There's no perfect job out there. And I want to offer you that maybe those thoughts are why you find yourself stuck in a job you hate because you don't believe doing work you love is realistic. Because you don't believe the perfect job exists because you're surrounded by other people who hate their job, so you believe that it's normal, and we're going to dive into that more in the next lesson. So yes, it might be true that most people hate their jobs, and that's because the vast majority of people are settling in their careers. So I like to compare settling in your career with settling in your relationship.

[00:09:35] To really highlight how many of us accept settling in our career in a way that we would never settle in other areas. So imagine that you have a friend who's in a relationship, and you ask her how things are going with her boyfriend, and imagine she says to you, oh, you know, it's not, it's not too bad. I don't love him, but I don't hate him either.

[00:09:56] Some days are tough, but it has its benefits. I'm happy for the most part. All days can't be good, right? What would you say to your friend? Would you believe that she's settling into her relationship? And how many times have you used this exact language to describe your job? These things seem like such clear red flags when we think of them in the context of a relationship, but for some reason, they don't feel like red flags when we're talking about our jobs, and it's become normal to hate your job to the extent that we don't even question it.

[00:10:33] Most of the time, hating your job is just how it is. But if you're listening to this right now, you're probably not okay with hating your job, and so you're in the right place. So this brings me to the biggest reason we settle in our career: we don't believe there's something better out there.

[00:10:51] Think about it. If your friend believed that there was a better match for her out there, do you think she'd still be in that relationship? Imagine a career that gets you excited to wake up in the morning. One that gives you the freedom to live life on your own terms. One that leaves you feeling so fulfilled every day, knowing that you are living out your purpose and positively impacting the world.

[00:11:14] Do you believe that job exists? If not, is it all that surprising that you find yourself stuck in an unfulfilling job, or maybe you believe that job exists but don't believe it's available to you? For example, maybe you're passionate about music, and you know that many people make millions of dollars with their music, but you don't believe that can be you.

[00:11:38] Other people do that. Other people are successful with it. Other people make money doing it, but that's not me. Why not? P.S. Did you know that John Legend used to be an accountant? He used to be sitting in a mundane job that he didn't enjoy with a dream of pursuing music full-time, and now he's John Legend.

[00:12:01] So why don't you believe that can be you? Or you may believe that job is available to you. You believe you can make a lot of money doing something you love. But you believe it'll take a long time to get there. You may want to start your own business, but you need a lot of experience first.

[00:12:17] Is this actually true? As someone who started an online fitness coaching business with zero prior experience in fitness or in starting a business, I can say confidently that if you really wanted to, you could start your business today. Unless there are licensing laws or other regulations that are literally preventing you from starting a business, the idea that you need more experience is likely just a belief. My job is to help you start questioning some of these beliefs that you've been holding onto.

[00:12:51] So, let's recap. You find yourself stuck in a job you hate because you don't believe it's possible or realistic for you to make a lot of money doing work you love. I hope I've changed your mind by the end of this course. For today, go ahead and journal on that question. If I knew that I'd succeed in whatever job I want, would I stay in the one I'm in now and begin to think about what career I might choose instead? In the next lesson, we're diving into why hating your job is not normal and how to normalize loving your job instead.

[00:13:34] All right, my love. I hope you enjoyed lesson one.
