[00:00:59] Hello, my loves. Wherever you are feeling stuck right now in your life, career, and business. You are stuck because of your own beliefs; your own limiting beliefs about why something is not possible for you are the reason why you are stuck right now. And I really need you to understand this, and I want to help you learn how to identify and change these beliefs that keep you stuck so that you can go and create the life, the career, the business that you want because it's possible for you. The only reason it doesn't feel possible for you right now is because of the beliefs you hold.
[00:01:40] Okay, so this topic came up for me today because I was on Instagram this morning, and I saw a comment that someone had posted under one of my videos where I was talking about how I quit my job and the person wasn't being rude like it wasn't a hate comment, but they said: "quitting a job is not an option in this current economic situation, but great advice."
[00:02:08] I mean, maybe they were being sarcastic. Actually, I don't know. I didn't take it that way. But the way that this person said that with such certainty quitting a job is not an option in this current economic situation, as if that's a fact. Just took me back for a minute because, to me, that's not true at all.
[00:02:26] But it's clear that this person believes that so strongly, and that honestly makes me so sad for them. Because here's the thing, quitting your job is still possible, no matter what is happening with the fucking economy. No one knows what's gonna happen with the economy, right? People are still quitting their jobs every day.
[00:02:43] Why would starting a business suddenly not be an option just because the economy isn't doing so well? Businesses are not only started when the economy is booming. In fact, a lot of successful businesses start in a recession. In the last recession alone, Uber started, Venmo started, and WhatsApp, Groupon, Airbnb, and Slack companies that are big names.
[00:03:10] Products that you probably use every day and every week of your life started in the 2008 recession, you guys. There are still companies that are hiring. Yes, many companies are laying people off, but if you go on Indeed right now, you're gonna find a lot of job openings. If you go on LinkedIn, you're gonna find job openings; people are still hiring.
[00:03:31] It might be a little bit harder to change jobs or start a business than it would be if we weren't about to go into a recession; it might look slightly different. Your job search might take longer, but it's not like Indeed has just shut down because there are no more job postings. Do you know what I mean? The statement that quitting your job is not possible because of the economy right now is objectively not true. Objectively, it's not true. Quitting your job is still a possibility, right? Whether you want to change careers, find a new job, or start a business, whatever you wanna do is still a possibility. Objectively, that is true, but this idea that we can't quit our jobs, we can't make a career change in a recession is so widespread; it's so deeply ingrained and conditioned within us that we just believe it without even questioning it anymore. We hear that the economy isn't doing great, and then we think, I can't make a career change right now. And here's the power of your limiting beliefs, right? If you believe that it is true that you cannot quit your job right now, then you're not gonna go on Indeed and look for other jobs.
[00:04:44] You're not going to take action to try to get your side hustle started because, in your mind, you're just thinking, 'well, I can't quit my job now anyway, so why to bother?' Why bother looking to see what else is out there? There aren't any companies hiring. Why bother starting this side hustle when working for yourself is unsafe?
[00:05:06] Why bother listening to podcasts, reading books, or learning how to start an online business when I can't do that right now because we're in a recession? So if this is your belief, then you're not going to take action to change your circumstance, and that is what is keeping you stuck, is your inaction that comes from these beliefs that you hold.
[00:05:28] But for someone who is looking at, okay, we're facing a very probable recession, the economy isn't looking so hot, but I can still make a change. I'm not happy in my job right now, and I believe that there is still another job out there that is more aligned for me, that I would be happier in, and I'm still gonna put in the time to go find that job.
[00:05:49] Or yes, we may be heading into a recession, and making money online is easier now than it ever has been, and I have more opportunities at my fingertips literally than humanity has ever had in the history of time. Yes, we are entering a likely recession, and it's still easier for you to make money on your own than it ever has been, and someone who has that belief and that mentality is the person who's going to take action is the person who's gonna start posting on social media promoting their services, is the person who's gonna create an account on Fiverr and start freelancing, is the person who's gonna start asking people in their network if they can help them with whatever service they wanna offer, that's the person who's gonna take action.
[00:06:36] And because that person's taking action, they are more likely to change their situation and not stay stuck and create the life, business, and career they want. But you won't take action if you believe that making a change right now isn't possible for you. So it all comes back to what your beliefs are.
[00:06:58] And a lot of us believe crazy limiting shit that we've picked up on from our parents, from society, from whatever. And it's just not fucking true. When you look at it objectively, when you can look at it from a different perspective, you realize that it's not true. So what I want you to take away from this is to start questioning your own damn beliefs.
[00:07:20] The things that you just believe to be true. The things that you keep telling yourself on repeat in your mind every day about why the thing you want isn't possible for you. Get out your journal and write all those things down, and then you're gonna go through each of them one by one, and you're gonna ask yourself, what evidence do I have that this is not true?
[00:07:40] So, let me offer you a different perspective here. If one of your limiting beliefs is that you can't quit your job during a recession or during a downturn in the economy, right, because the way I see it, there is no better time for you to start thinking about how you can make money outside of your current job than right.
[00:08:00] Your nine-to-five job has never been more at risk. If we are truly going into this massive recession that people are talking about, and we've seen evidence of it, cuz all of these companies are having these mass layoffs, your job is not secure right now. Your job is at risk. So the worst thing you can do is stay in that job and not take any action to protect yourself in the event that you are laid off, and if you also believe that nobody else is hiring, then guess what? You better figure out how to make money on your own, babe. Like now have, there's never been a more important time for you to take your income into your own hands. By figuring out how to make money on the internet, the easiest tool we have at our fingertips right now.
[00:08:45] So, if anything, this should be more of a motivator for you to do that, not less. I see it as the complete opposite, right? But even if you can't get there looking at this belief, is it objectively true? Is it an objective fact that I can't quit my job in a recession? No, I just listed a bunch of companies that started during the last recession, right?
[00:09:11] Freelancing is booming now more than ever. You have more opportunities than you've ever had before to take your income into your own hands. As a freelancer and as an online business owner, as an online service provider, whatever it is that you wanna do is still possible. It doesn't matter what the fucking economy is doing.
[00:09:30] That's the way I see it. So go through that list of crazy limiting beliefs. Ask yourself, is each of these things true? And the answer I can tell you right now is no because they never are. And when you begin to see things differently, you are going to open up your mind to the possibilities that are truly available to you.
[00:09:50] And what that does is it trains your mind to be looking for those opportunities as they manifest in your life. You're gonna see a job posting online, and you're gonna look at it. You'll see a podcast episode about how to start freelancing, and you'll listen to it, right? But if you have this default belief, okay, here's the other thing you need to know about how our brains work: confirmation bias.
[00:10:16] Our brain is constantly looking for evidence to prove what we already believe to be true, and it will put blinders on us and ignore information that goes against our current beliefs. And this is why learning how to train your brain and learning how to recognize limiting beliefs is so important.
[00:10:37] Cuz if you're not aware that this is happening, you're just gonna keep reaffirming these beliefs that keep you stuck. If you believe that it's not possible for you to quit your job right now, you're probably not even gonna be scrolling on LinkedIn, but even if you were scrolling on LinkedIn and you saw, you would literally not even see the post about job opportunities, like you would scroll past it because your brain would be like, that's not important, because I know that that's not possible for me right now. And then we can also talk about social media algorithms, right? The algorithm is gonna pick up on the fact that you're not interested in those types of posts, and I'm just gonna stop showing them to you. You're literally limiting the opportunities that you are seeing just by the thoughts that you are thinking and that you are reinforcing in your mind.
[00:11:21] But confirmation bias can work in your favor if you start to change those thoughts. And open your mind up to the possibilities, right? If you think it is still possible for me to start freelancing, now is the best time for me. Then you're gonna stop on those videos that come up in your feed of someone talking about how they got started freelancing.
[00:11:43] You'll start listening to podcast episodes about how you can make money online. You might even get on Google and start searching for that information and then, guess what? You're gonna start seeing that more and more. One, because your brain is seeking it out and looking for it. And two, because the algorithm reinforces confirmation bias and shows you more of the things you are consuming, right?
[00:12:06] Everything starts with your mind. Everything starts with these core beliefs that you have, and a lot of us have some really shitty core beliefs that we have picked up on from our parents, from society, from these things that we've just been told and that we didn't question as a child because we were children and we just accepted them as fact, and then we never questioned them again once we became adults.
[00:12:28] Even though when we can look at a statement like, 'quitting your job isn't a possibility right now.' We know that objectively that's not true. Objectively, you could, it's a possibility, but if that belief is just running on default in your brain and you're not looking at it, and you're not actively working to change it and opening your mind to the possibilities that are truly available to you, you're literally shutting those possibilities off.
[00:12:51] And then it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy because you're sitting here thinking, it's not possible for me to quit my job right now. You're not seeking out any opportunities. Confirmation bias is confirming this for you because you're not seeing any job postings, and you're not taking any action. You're not trying to make money on your own.
[00:13:08] You're not trying to start your business. You're not trying to get started freelancing. And then what becomes true for you is that it's not possible for you to quit your job right now. Because you haven't taken any action to make any other options possible for you. But for someone who believes it's possible for them, they're gonna seek out information and create those opportunities for themselves.
[00:13:28] They're gonna take action in the direction of what they want, and that's the person who's gonna start making money as a freelancer and be able to quit their job this year, or God forbid they get laid off, they're gonna have something to fall back on. Your thoughts drive your actions, which drive your results.
[00:13:44] So I want you to take an honest look at your life right now at all the areas where you're feeling stuck, and I want you to get out your journal, and I want you to ask yourself, what do I believe to be true about this? What do I believe to be true about my career? What do I believe to be true about my business?
[00:14:00] What do I believe to be true about freelancing or applying it to your relationship, whatever part of your life, health, and fitness. If you've been trying to lose weight for years and you haven't been able to, what do you believe to be true about yourself that is just not possible for you to lose weight, that you're just a bad eater, that you just have bad habits, that you can't break?
[00:14:17] Are those things objectively true? Absolutely fucking not They never are true. So list them all out. Disprove all of them. Write down all the evidence that you have that they are not true. And then create affirmations. Put 'em in your phone in your reminders app if you need to. Remind yourself every day of the new belief that you wanna open your mind to, and watch the opportunities and the possibilities that unfold for you.
[00:14:42] And then you can DM me and thank me in a few months from now when you are a full-time freelancer, which you didn't think was possible until today, but now you know that it fucking is. So go make it happen. Why do we sit here and tell ourselves that things aren't possible for us instead of just going out and doing them when they're fully possible for us?
[00:15:00] It is crazy the impact that our mind has on us. It truly is. And the more that I've done this work, and now I'm able to recognize my own limiting beliefs, and when I'm telling myself bullshit lies about what's possible for me, and now I'm able to see when other people are doing that to themselves, and it just kills me.
[00:15:16] I'm so sad for this person who thinks that this is not possible for her and who's stating it with such certainty as if it's a fact. It's not a fact, babe. That's just a belief. It's just a thought. Very rarely are our thoughts and beliefs the ultimate truth. There's always a different way to see things and a better way to see things that will be more beneficial to you rather than just keeping you stuck and small.
[00:15:40] So I hope this episode reached you whenever it needed to, to help you recognize what bullshit limiting belief is keeping you stuck. Thank you for being here. Thank you for listening. I love you. I appreciate you. I am here for you always, and I will talk to you in the next episode.
